49. GAKUTEI (1786-1868). Morning Glories. (Sold)

YASHIMA GAKUTEI  (1786-1868)

Still-life with a Kutani porcelain bowl with three morning glories,
their leaves and a silver scissor. Growing different types of morning
glories was a popular pastime during the later part of the Edo
Period and books were published illustrating different varieties of
these flowers. Among Gakutei’s still-life surimono this is one of the
most attractive design.
