YASHIMA GAKUTEI (1786-1868)
The Chinese court lady Yang Kuei-fei (719-756) (J: Yōkihi) standing
on a balcony overlooking a garden of blossoming cherries.
She was the favorite concubine of the Chinese Emperor Hsüan
Tsung (685-762). The cherry tree (Yōkihisakura) named after her,
is said to have originated in the city of Nara.
