47. HOKKEI (1780-1850). Kumasaka Chohan. (Sold)
TOTOYA HOKKEI (1780-1850)
The bandit Kumasaka Chohan holding his halberd. He is said to have
stood guard on top of a large pine tree inside Aonogahara forest in
Mino Province. The legend tells of the young Yoshitsune, who was
still called Ushiwakamaro at the time, was on the run to the feudal
lord Fujihara no Hidehira when he was attacked by Kumasaka and
his gang. However, after a fight Ushiwakamaro bravely defeated the
bandit.
