RYŪRYŪKYO SHINSAI  (1764-1820)

Two young courtesans are depicted in the costumes of sambaso
dancers in front of a single-panel screen (tsuitate), decorated with
a goat and a flowering plum tree. The standing woman holds a fan
in her hand. Her costume is decorated with a large crest and
incorporates the numbering of the short months of the year
printed with metallic pigments. The other dancer is crouched on
the floor and leans on her hand drum (kotsuzumi).
